iPhone Gets Wet? Avoid Rice, Use This Safe Method Instead!

Have you ever panicked when your beloved iPhone accidentally fell into water? Many people immediately remember the old advice to dry it with rice. However, did you know that this method can actually be dangerous?

According to Apple and experts, drying a wet iPhone using rice is not recommended. The reason is that rice that absorbs water can become sticky and get stuck inside the iPhone, potentially damaging internal components. Additionally, rice can also attract dust and is not effective in preventing corrosion caused by water.

So, what should you do when your iPhone gets wet?

  1. Don’t panic! Immediately remove your iPhone from the water and do not try to turn it on.
  2. Wipe it with a clean, soft cloth to remove any water that is on the surface. Avoid using tissue or rough cloth that can leave fibers inside the charging port.
  3. Gently tap your iPhone with the connector facing down to remove any trapped water.
  4. Place the iPhone in a dry, well-ventilated place. If possible, avoid direct sunlight or other heat sources.
  5. Let the iPhone dry for at least 30 minutes, ideally up to 24 hours. Do not charge or connect the iPhone to a computer during this process.
  6. After the drying period, try turning on the iPhone. If the iPhone does not turn on, check for a “Liquid Detected” warning on the screen.

If the “Liquid Detected” warning appears:

  • Do not charge the iPhone when this warning appears. This can cause permanent damage to the charging connector.
  • Repeat steps 4-6. Sometimes, the drying process takes longer.
  • Contact Apple Support or visit an Apple Authorized Service Provider if the warning persists or the iPhone still does not work.

Additional tips:

  • Do not use a hair dryer, oven, or microwave to dry the iPhone. Excessive heat can damage internal components.
  • Do not insert foreign objects into the charging port such as cotton swabs or needles. This can damage the connector pins.
  • Always back up your iPhone data regularly. If your iPhone is water damaged and cannot be repaired, you will not lose important data.

By following the steps above and avoiding the myth of using rice, you can increase your chances of saving your wet iPhone. However, if your iPhone is severely water damaged, do not hesitate to contact a professional repair service.
